There is no doubt that the music industry is screwed up at the moment. The big record labels have abandoned the up and coming original bands. Gone are the days of being discovered playing the club scene and signing a big contract where the record label markets you and pushes you out to the public.
Big Music has become a parasite. They now sit back and wait for a band to build a large following. They wait to see a proven sales record. They crunch every number possible, downloads, ticket sales, merch sales, and on and on. Then when they feel that the band is a 100% safe bet they swoop in and try to take a cut of something they had no hand in building.
So what is a band to do? Indy? Well if you like getting screwed over by the big streaming services I guess that is the way to go. It is almost as ludicrous as Big Music. You the artist write, record, produce, and market the music and Big Streaming pays you pennies on the download and keep the bulk of the money from a product that they neither created nor marketed. That's why I created Rock Wars Worldwide. We are more than a competition. We are a music community. It is our mission to fix the broken music industry. We don't have all of the answers but we believe that if we come together as a family of musicians we can solve these problems if we work together. When you compete in Rock Wars Worldwide you are more than a contestant you are Rock Wars Worldwide Family. We will do anything we can to market you and help you in anyway we can. We can't do it alone though. We need you to participate. Voice your ideas on how to make money. Tell us how to make the industry better. Reach out to your fellow contestants. Collab, help each other out. If you are playing in another bands neck of the woods, reach out and ask questions. Maybe have them support you. The more we work together the more things will change.
