Rock Wars Worldwide
So the Age of Ore, how are you guys doing today?
Age of Ore
Really good.
Rock Wars Worldwide
How do you guys feel about being world champions? That's pretty cool, huh?
Jake
It's great. It's exciting.
Rock Wars Worldwide
You guys are awesome. I'm a big fan. Just so you know, I've been listening to metal for years and years and years. And you guys for a band as young as you are. You take me back to the 80s when I first started listening to Metallica and Megadeth and, you know, bands like that.
Jake
I mean, they're awesome. Yeah.
Rock Wars Worldwide
How did you guys actually end up becoming a band? I know Jake and Lucas are brothers, but how do you meet and form a band?
Jake
Well, me and Luke are brothers. We always just played together and whatever. And we had a couple of people in the band before. Things didn't work out. So we knew Deven, for actually a while.
Luke
We've known Deven, since we got the first people in the band like.
Jake
Yeah. Yeah. We we've always known Deven. And we actually met him through, like a music program kind of thing. And we just we just asked. He originally played drums and then we asked him if he wanted to play bass. He said Sure.
Rock Wars Worldwide
That's really cool. I'm a bass player, too, Dev so I love bass players. You guys are like fifteen, thirteen and twelve. It blows my mind that you've already won two fairly significant music awards and you won another battle of the band competition. How does it sit with you guys being so successful at such a young age?
Jake
Honestly, for me, at least, It's just awesome. It's really a blessing Just an awesome thing to have all this great stuff coming to us.
Rock Wars Worldwide
How about you guys? Devin and Lucas? How does it feel to be so successful at such a young age? I mean, it's actually amazing to me. I mean, two Elephant Indie Talk Music Awards and your 13.
Luke
I think it's cool, I forgot the question again.
Jake
How do you feel?
Luke
I think it's cool, I like being like as famous as we are, like not that we're like, really famous, but we're pretty popular in some big places for music. And it's cool to know that, when you actually really get into it, you already have a fan base started, so, it's not like when you're like twenty one, like we're just playing in bars. It's like we're 21 one, we're playing in like big arenas since we already have tons of fans out everywhere.
Rock Wars Worldwide
Absolutely. And you guys are kind of famous is to say, people know you in England, Greece, all over the world. Because you beat the crap out of them in Rock Wars.
Jake
We are we've got a lot fans from South America, apparently metal is apparently pretty big down there. And we just received a lot of followers. That's that's pretty cool that we're actually getting all over the globe. A decent amount of people,
Rock Wars Worldwide
I have bands from Europe tell me that they're not even touring in Europe right now because they're too busy touring in South America.
Jake
Well, I've seen video clips from Iron Maiden playing in South America and stuff. There's so many people there and they're all having all having the time of their life. Like, if you went and saw a show here in Philadelphia, everyone would be pretty excited. But when you see shows in South America, everybody's freaking to a different level.
Rock Wars Worldwide
And I got to tell you, since you mentioned Iron Maiden, I watched your video where you guys did the cover of the Trooper. And not to sound like a fanboy, but I am. My favorite maiden, tune, of all time is the Trooper. And you guys kicked it's ass just so you know.
Jake
Awesome. Thank you so much. Yeah, that's that's a great song. I love that song. I love Iron Maiden in general.
Rock Wars Worldwide
Me too.
Rock Wars Worldwide
So who do you guys consider your biggest influences musically for me?
Jake
Can I give you three?
Rock Wars Worldwide
Sure.
Jake
So my top three, my number one influence is probably Tool and then Iron Maiden and then Metallica. I feel like our music's kind of like a fusion of those three.
Rock Wars Worldwide
I would agree with that.
Luke
I feel the same way with Tool like Danny is one of like my famous or my favorite drummers. He's one of the best I've ever seen. Awesome.
Deven
Honestly, like Jake said, I think we, you know, have a mix of like Tool and Metallica and stuff, but honestly, I grew up when I first got into rock music. I started out with like Ozzy Osborne, Kurt Cobain from Nirvana and stuff. And then like as as I kept listening to it and loving metal and stuff, I started listening to like my favorite band System of a Down, Metallica, Godsmack, everything like that.
Rock Wars Worldwide
If you like Ozzy, Carmine Apease actually follows Rock Wars, so he's probably seen you play bass.
Deven
Yeah. That's cool.
Jake
That's pretty awesome.
Luke
Pretty awesome.
Rock Wars Worldwide
Hows the Corona virus quarantine actually been affecting you guys? I know you're not in school, but how's it affecting you guys musically?
Jake
Honestly, we're just staying in working on a lot of new stuff, which is cool.
Luke
We're still practicing together. Like we just did a video conference yesterday.
Jake
Yeah. Yeah. Me and Deven worked on a couple of songs. And, you know, it's kind of kind of business as usual, but just just virtual. It's different. But we managed to adapt.
Rock Wars Worldwide
Now, how does having this this type of success affect you guys socially, like with friends in school? I mean, are people cool with it or are people jealous?
Jake
My friends are completely fine with it. You know, they're all pretty supportive. Which is great a lot of them come to shows and support the band, buy cds and stuff, which is cool. Couple of my friends want to buy some merchandise, which is pretty cool. So overall, just like normal.
Deven
Yeah. I got a couple of my friends listening to my music. One of my friends even came out to our recent concert at where was it? The River Park Pub. Yes. The River Pub in Gloucester, that's cool.
Rock Wars Worldwide
I actually grew up there.
Jake
Really?
Rock Wars Worldwide
Yep. I grew up there. Probably spent the first 20 some years of my life in Gloucester. I actually know a lot of the same people that your dad Knows from Gloucester. They were kind of the crew I hung around with in school all metal heads.
Jake
Gloucester City or Gloucester County?
Rock Wars Worldwide
Gloucester City So aside from all that, the Corona virus and you know, everything that's kind of holding you back. Right now, you dad was actually telling me that you guys are working on an album. How's that coming?
Jake
We actually were right in the studio today. We are putting together a seven song album. Three of the songs which were on the E.P. that we already released are on it. And we actually just went to the studio today to do some guitar solos. And overall, it's gonna be awesome.
Rock Wars Worldwide
You can still access the studio and everything, even with everything is going on?
Jake
Yeah. Yeah. It's just us. Because we're like we're friends with the dude who owns it. So, he lets us come in and do what we need to do. That's all. Which is a pretty good perk, you know?
Rock Wars Worldwide
Yeah, absolutely.
Rock Wars Worldwide
So what do you guys like to do when you're not playing music? I mean, are you guys into other activities, sports or anything like that?
Jake
I ride dirt bikes and I work on dirt bikes and stuff like that. And I also I'm building a guitar. And I just started working on my second one, which is cool. It's an interesting journey and it's been it's been really fun. I don't have fully assembled yet, but I did learn to build a guitar on YouTube and stuff. One of my old guitar teachers had a friend who was a luthier who built guitars and he gave me some pointers. And then the dude who did the record is doing the recording for us. He has another friend and he's actually showing me how to do all the wiring and stuff. So it's it's helpful to have some people who know what they're actually doing, you know?
Rock Wars Worldwide
Well, that's awesome. That's that's really cool.
Rock Wars Worldwide
How about your equipment. Do you have any kind of brand loyalty to like any specific, you know, B.C. Rich or Tama or anything like that. Like, what kind of rigs do you guys play?
Luke
I can't show you since I'm on a computer, but I have like a big Pearl kit behind me right there. And I use all Sabian symbols except for my ride and my high hat, which are Ziljian I've had it since I forget when it's like it's pretty long. And I've had this I've been playing for six years. I think I got it two years so I've had this for like five years I think.
Rock Wars Worldwide
Deven, how about you? What do you play?
Deven
I play a Jackson bass guitar. It's the black one behind me. You can kind of see it. You're showing the whole thing. I use a relay wireless hookup. So, I'm not attached to a wire. I can move around on stage. And I had a drop pedal to easily tune my bass. Cool. I just got an orange amp. But sadly, it doesn't work. For some reason,
Jake
It's not working.
Deven
Yeah. At the show at the Brighton Bar, it was making kind of like a rattling sound. Something's wrong with the speaker. But I used Jake's amp for like when we go on stage. That's what I use. Cool.
Jake
I think it's a beef cabinet.
Deven
It's heavy. It's really loud.
Jake
My favorite guitar. I have a sterling OH1 majesty for music man. The John Pertucci edition. That's that's really awesome. It play super well. It's really great for shredding. And then I also have a Jackson J. S thirty two dinkie which is another great guitar for shredding and then an Ibenez AR420 Which I always keep drop tuned for stuff like tool and a lot of like grunge stuff. I like to use that guitar. And then I have a line six helix processing board which is great. So I can have all my effects right there. And then I use the same thing Devin has a line six relay G ten and a digi-tech drop petal.
Rock Wars Worldwide
Awesome. That sounds like a really awesome setup. What do you guys what you guys see yourself in 10 years?
Luke
10 years older.
Jake
Hopefully, you know, playing bigger places, playing like big arenas and record deal would be awesome. Just making more albums and gaining a lot of fans would be awesome.
Rock Wars Worldwide
Now, if you guys could play any arena in the world, where would your dream concert be?
Luke
I know mine. It's called the O2 Arena in London. It's huge I want to play there. I saw an Iron Maiden video there once it's huge and I just still want to play it.
Rock Wars Worldwide
How about you guys?
Jake
For me, probably the Coliseum Galson the play there, because I know they do shows there. I'm pretty sure. I saw Metallica play there once. Obviously not live but like a recording of them. And it looks like a really cool place.
Deven
I went to my first concert to see Black Sabbath. I forget what year was. It was a couple of years ago, but I went to the BB&T Stadium. I've always wanted to play there.
Rock Wars Worldwide
That's a cool, cool stadium. If you guys could tour with any band past or present, who would it be?
Jake
That's a tough one.
Luke
I would say either Tool or Iron Maiden.
Deven
I would have to say my favorite band System of a Down. That's my all time favorite band. It's been my favorite the band for four years.
Rock Wars Worldwide
Very cool. So what's next for the Age of Ore? Are you guys planning anything big for after this whole quarantine thing is done?
Jake
I don't think we have anything I don't really know. We'll hopefully get some more shows, you know, some stuff got canceled, which is unfortunate. But, you know, it was bound to happen.
Luke
We were going to have a show in a few days, but it got canceled.
Jake
We want to play out a lot. Which would be awesome. And just get this this album finished and out there and really promote the crap out of it.
Rock Wars Worldwide
Now, come September. We're actually going to be having our first tournament of champions. Are you guys going to submit a video and compete against all the other champions?
Luke
Yeah.
Jake
Yeah.
Deven
Yeah. I hope so that that would be really cool.
Rock Wars Worldwide
Rock Wars is a is a competition which everybody knows, But it's also kind of like a big family. Like once you've competed in Rock Wars you pretty much like to try to help each other out. Like if you guys had anything that you were trying to promote, you could always contact me and we would help you in any way we can. I don't know if you have talked to any of the other bands that you competed with, like that's a big thing. People meet bands from across the world and get kind of like a little network going. Have you guys reached out to any of the other bands ?
Jake
We're friends with Zenora. They were in it before. We're good friends with them.
Deven
We had a show with them. Yeah, we played a show with them a couple couple weeks ago, which went really well. It was like their album release kind of thing. But yeah, we are we keep in touch with them. But other than that, that's pretty much it.
Rock Wars Worldwide
That's cool. They're actually Rock Wars Champions too. They won the month before you guys did.
Jake
Really.
Rock Wars Worldwide
Yeah. The reason I was asking is because we had a band that was getting ready to tour Japan, an Australian band. I hooked them up with one of our bands that competes from Japan. So they could talk and ask questions and, you know, help each other out, Maybe, have one of them open for the other that kind of thing and it actually seems like it really works out well.
Jake
Yeah and that's cool.
Rock Wars Worldwide
I just told your dad about a Web site called The XStream. And I sent him a link. It's awesom,. it's like Facebook for bands. You go on there and there are bands, solo artists, producers and everything like that. And they all want to help each other out. So you guys definitely want to get a profile on the thexstream.net. You should definitely check that out.
Jake
Awesome. Yeah, we'll definitely do that.
Rock Wars Worldwide
So are there anything that you want to let people know, your fans or potential fans about the band that they might not necessarily know just from following your music?
Jake
Yeah, just be on the lookout for our new album. We just appreciate all the support that they're giving us. And they have to continue playing awesome shows and making awesome music for them.
Rock Wars Worldwide
I don't really have a whole lot more for you guys, so I'm going to end it the interview. It's been really great talking to you guys. A really good interview. And I appreciate your time.
Age of Ore
Awesome. Thank you so much. Thank you. And thank you for having us again.
Rock Wars Worldwide
I definitely look forward to anything else you guys have coming out in the future.
Jake
Awesome. We look forward to it. Thank you so much for having us.
Rock Wars Worldwide
Thank you for coming on the show..
